Discomfort Relief

Munchies® WIRED devices have viscoelastic properties that provide relief from the discomfort felt during orthodontic tooth movement, especially in the first 24 hours after a wire placement & adjustment, separator insertion, elastic band application, palatal expander activation. Patients gain relief when biting initially into a soft device, followed by a firmer device, the phenomenon is called the Bite Wafer Effect1,2

How effective are Munchies® WIRED and what are the advantages?

Biting regularly on the Munchies® WIRED device can provide significant relief from this pain and discomfort. Research confirms that this relief is as effective as over-the-counter medications, without the risks and side effects3.

In addition, use of anti-inflammatory medication4 such as ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and aspirin during treatment can severely inhibit the effectiveness of orthodontic tooth movement and should be avoided.

1. Unprecedented aligner seating: Munchies® accurately seat aligners for a truly intimate fit to optimize the clinical efficacy of the in-built aligner force system.

2. Accelerated orthodontic tooth movement: Munchies® EPS, Munchies® FIRM and Munchies® VIBE II ensure that aligners fit as intimately as possible, increasing the likelihood that treatment plans will progress as quickly as possible and minimizing the chance of time-consuming and costly refinements and adjustments. Munchies® VIBE II delivers specific high-frequency acceleration (HFA) forces to stimulate osteoclastic activation leading to faster and more predictable orthodontic movements.

3. Effective orthodontic analgesic: Use of Munchies® can provide pain and discomfort relief as effective as acetaminophen or ibuprofen after a new aligner insertion by minimizing capillary strangulation in the periodontal ligament.

4. Rapid Salivary Flow Stimulant: Use of Munchies® VIBE II stimulates your salivary glands and is recommended to be used prior to meals to alleviate symptoms of dry mouth. Munchies® VIBE II promotes the activation of tonic vibration reflex (TVR) with its specific vibrations5.

5. Proven relapse mitigator post treatment: Many Patients are inconsistent with their use of their retainers and minor relapse is a common occurrence. If relapse is detected early enough and adequate space is available, the aberrant teeth can be moved back into the correct position with the use of clear retainers and Munchies® Maintain devices. The patients contact points, adjacent to the relapse site, should be checked carefully to ensure that no collisions have occurred. Relief of these areas need to be provided.
