ORTHODONTIC ANALGESIC EFFECT
Recommended for Aligners or Fixed Braces
Pain is a common symptom of orthodontic treatment and wherever possible, avoiding or minimizing the use of analgesics is preferred. Munchies® usage induces the bite wafer effect, which has been shown to be highly effective for pain reduction and is recommended as a suitable substitute (or adjunct) for paracetamol, ibuprofen or other NSAID's. As a non-pharmacological option, this eliminates the possibility of side effects from the over-use of analgesics and can easily be used at home or school without supervision.
Ideal pain management is achieved if Munchies® are used by biting in the posterior region (back teeth) for 3-4 minutes at 6-8 hour intervals up to 1 week if pain persists. Commence with the softest Munchie® that provides pain relief after wire adjustment or the insertion of a new aligner and then move to a slightly harder device after about 8 hours. This use of varying hardness Munchies® at different stages after orthodontic adjustment or new aligner insertion is critical to maximize your pain relief.
Munchies® are available in 2 sizes and 4 distinctive visco-elasticities and are delivered in 2 starter options:
- The "Gentle" pack for those patients who prefer gentler forces on their teeth
- The "Firm" pack which deliver stronger forces to provide pain relief
Refer to the "Gentle or Firm" page on this website for more information on how to obtain the greatest pain relief with your Munchies®.
Each starter pack has a Gentle Pack and a Firm pack, both with 2 standard Munchies® and a Munchies Maxx® (Maxx is more robust and suited for more aggressive chewing and deeper bite cases).
The refill pack has 2 packs of either Gentle or Firm Munchies®, both with 2 standard Munchies® and a Munchies Maxx®.
